For training providers and buyers
Where is our data kept?
On servers in the United Kingdom: the database is in London, and the platform's server functions run in London. Emails from the platform are sent from Ireland, and a record of each is kept by our email provider in the United States.
Can a candidate see the answers?
Not while they sit the paper: the answer key is never sent to their browser, and papers are marked on our server against its own copy. Once they have passed, or have no attempts left, they are shown the correct answers to the questions they got wrong.
Can a result be changed after it is submitted?
No. A submitted result cannot be re-marked or edited; this is enforced twice, by the application and again by the database. A result can be voided, and voiding needs a second member of staff to approve it. In an organisation of one person that Ebor Labs has exempted, it is recorded as done alone.
Who can change a question or its correct answer?
Any trainer can propose a change, and a second trainer must approve it before the paper uses it. In an organisation of one person that Ebor Labs has exempted, the change is recorded as made alone. Every version of a paper is kept.
Can one person delete records?
No. Deleting a record needs a second member of staff to approve it, and the server enforces it. In an organisation of one person that Ebor Labs has exempted, a deletion waits 24 hours and is recorded as done alone. The platform records who did what and when, and that record cannot be edited.
Can other organisations see our records?
No. Each organisation sees only its own records, checked on the server for every request.
How do staff sign in?
With an email and password, then a six-digit code we email them (a computer can be remembered for 30 days), or with their organisation's Microsoft or Google account. A new trainer is invited by an administrator, or asks for an account and is approved.
How do candidates get in?
With a batch code the trainer reads out, or a personal link the trainer sends. Candidates do not need an account or a password.
Can candidates sit on their own phone?
Yes, on a phone or a laptop. Answers are saved a moment after each one; if the tab closes, reopening it in the same browser picks up from the last save, and the clock keeps running.
What does the platform record while a candidate sits the paper?
How many times they switch away from the paper's tab, and, if the organisation uses full screen, how many times they leave it. If the batch is limited to one device, a random name for that device. If the batch uses the photo and ID check, the two photos taken before starting, deleted after 30 days. Not when they switched away, not their screen, not their camera or microphone while they sit. None of it is a mark against them or changes their score.
Can we check that the person sitting is who they say?
On Pro, yes, if an administrator switches on the photo and ID check for a batch. The candidate takes a photo of themselves and of their photo ID before starting; a trainer compares the two by eye. The photos are deleted after 30 days.
Can candidates' computers be locked down while they sit?
On Pro, yes: an administrator can require Safe Exam Browser for a batch. Candidates then start only in that free app, which blocks other apps and websites until they finish. It runs on Windows, Mac, iPad and iPhone, not on Android or Chromebooks. No camera is used. It does not stop a second device in the room, so a sitting that matters still needs someone in the room. It stops a candidate casually using other apps; someone who sets out to get round it, with some technical knowledge, can start without the app, so it is not proof on its own.
Can we give a candidate extra time?
Yes. A trainer grants it, and the platform applies it. It is recorded as an authorisation; no diagnosis or medical detail is stored.
How does anyone check a certificate is real?
Each certificate has a reference and, unless you turn it off, a QR code. Anyone can check it against the record without signing in.
Do you issue certificates of attendance?
Yes. A certificate of attendance says only that you recorded the person as present; it does not show that they sat or passed an assessment.
Can it connect to our other systems?
On Pro, yes. An administrator can make API keys and webhooks for HR or booking systems in Settings. Ebor Labs sets up a connection to your learning platform (LTI 1.3), or sending results to your learning record store (xAPI).
Can we bring our existing questions?
Yes, from Word or PDF using the template beside each importer, or from another system in the QTI standard.
How much does it cost?
In the UK, Standard is £20 a month for up to 500 assessments, and Pro is £50 a month for up to 1,500. In the UAE, Standard is AED 300 and Pro AED 700 a month, invoiced monthly. The first month is free. The price you see is the price you pay: nothing added at checkout.
How quickly do you answer?
Email exam@eborlabs.com, or use Report a problem in Help. We answer within 2 working days on Standard and 1 working day on Pro (UK working days).
How do we cancel?
In the UK, an administrator opens Settings, then Manage payment, and cancels on Stripe's page. You keep access to the end of the month you have paid for and are not charged again; we do not refund part-months. In the UAE, email exam@eborlabs.com. Cancelling does not delete your records: to have them deleted, your administrator asks Ebor Labs to close the organisation (see "Can we take our records away?").
Can we take our records away?
Yes. An administrator can download a full backup of the organisation's records at any time, from Settings. If you leave, your administrator asks Ebor Labs to close the organisation: everything is then deleted, except a check record of each certificate already issued, kept until it expires, or for 6 years if it has no expiry.
Is it accessible?
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA and are partially compliant; our accessibility statement says what has and has not been checked.
For candidates
I lost my connection. Have I lost my answers?
Answers are saved as you go, a moment after each one. If the connection drops, keep the page open: everything is sent when it comes back. If the page closed, reopen it in the same browser and you pick up from the last save. The clock keeps running, so tell your trainer.
Can I see which questions I got wrong?
Yes, once you pass or have no attempts left. While a resit is still open you are told how many you missed, so the next attempt stays fair.
Who sees my result?
The trainers, administrators and auditors of the organisation running the assessment, and you. Ebor Labs can reach it to run the platform. Anyone holding your certificate's reference can check your name, employer, course and score. Your training provider may also send results to its own systems.
Where is my certificate?
On your result screen once you pass, to download; and by email if your training provider sends it.
